Real Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly believes it will be ‘impossible’ to sell Eden Hazard this month despite interest from the likes of Newcastle United.

According to the Athletic, the La Liga official is aware that trying to offload Hazard will be quite the task for Madrid in January given how much the Belgian forward earns and how settled the former Chelsea star is in Spain, despite his lack of playing time.

As per the report, Hazard is one of Madrid’s highest-paid players at €15m-a-season. However, the 31-year-old is ranked just 20th in minutes played for Los Blancos this campaign, which has led to many rumours suggesting that the winger will be on the move this January, with Newcastle one of the club’s linked.

ESPN reported that the Belgian star is on Eddie Howe’s radar as the Magpies consider making their first superstar signing since the PIF takeover. However, it now appears that Newcastle have backed away in recent weeks from making a move for the La Liga forward.

And Newcastle have seemingly made the right call in opting to look at other attacking targets rather than pursue Hazard, with the forward having a poor 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with Belgium which led to the winger announcing his retirement from international football shortly after the Red Devils’ elimination.

Indeed, Hazard’s career at Madrid remains one of the biggest enigma’s in football, and this latest development that the attacker is all but certain to stay in Spain this January means that the Newcastle target will likely not get a chance to return to his once frightening best.

Real Madrid should bite the bullet and sell Hazard this month

From a financial perspective, it makes sense why Madrid view Hazard’s sale as impossible, with few clubs in football willing to match the attacker’s salary, let alone be committed to acting paying it. Yet for Los Blancos, they will be better off just cutting their losses and allowing the winger to leave this month.

After all, Hazard will likely hardly play for Carlo Ancelotti this season, and whilst Newcastle might not be interested in the attacker, many clubs will be if Madrid are ruthless enough to accept their situation with the forward and just allow him to walk to move on with his career.
