Celtic’s reported quest to sign Takefusa Kubo from Real Madrid seems to have suffered a blow.

In June, Spanish publication AS claimed that Celtic are interested in signing Kubo from Madrid in the summer transfer window (click here to read more).

The report stated that the Glasgow giants want to secure the services of the 19-year-old winger on a loan deal.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain were also named as an interested party in the report.

However, it seems that Celtic will be disappointed in their reported pursuit of the Japan international winger.

According to ESPN, Spanish and European giants Madrid view Sevilla and Real Sociedad as the two best options for the teenager to go on loan this summer for the 2020-21 campaign.

Both Sevilla and Sociedad are reportedly keen on Kubo, who spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Real Mallorca.

Sensible plan?

Kubo is a very talented and promising young winger, and staying in La Liga would make sense, both for him and for Madrid.

After all, if the winger’s long-term future is at the Santiago Bernabeu, then the club would want him to get used to playing in Spain rather than move to Scotland where the footballing style is quite different.
