Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp have led Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur to the Champions League final – but Zinedine Zidane has the Real Madrid job.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has opened the door for the La Liga giants to make a move for Jurgen Klopp or Mauricio Pochettino on the back their outstanding work at Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, speaking to Onda Cero.

Klopp and Pochettino were both heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabau before Zinedine Zidane returned to Los Blancos in March.

And while Real Madrid ended a nightmare 2018/19 campaign without a single trophy, Klopp and Pochettino are going head to head to win the Champions League for the first time in their career.

Liverpool and Tottenham will do battle at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday and a victory for either will enhance their reputation as one of the elite coaches in world football.

And while Zidane looks set to stay at Madrid for at least another year or two, Perez has suggested that Klopp or Pochettino could take over at the Bernabau one day in the future.

President of Real Madrid Florentino Perez speaks during a press conference to present their new player Jesus Vallejo at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid, on July 7, 2017.

“Klopp and Pochettino are phenomenal,” the famously trigger-happy president told Onda Cero, as translated by the Evening Standard.

“I’ve never tried to sign them, but that doesn’t mean we won’t try to in the future.”

The Times reported last year that Real Madrid would have to pay £42.5 million to buy-out Pochettino’s contract at Tottenham, an eye-watering fee that perhaps encouraged them to hand the doomed Julen Lopetegui the reigns instead.
