Real Madrid are reportedly open to selling 28-year-old left-back Ferland Mendy this summer, after a disappointing individual campaign for the Frenchman.

Ferland Mendy has fallen down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Eduardo Camavinga and Nacho selected ahead of him despite not being natural left-backs.

The arrival of Fran Garcia this summer is likely to further limit his game-time, and with just two years left on his deal, Real Madrid could cash in on the defender.

A report from Mundo Deportivo has highlighted a number of players who could depart Madrid this summer, and suggested that the club are open to selling Mendy, with the player also interested in returning to France.

Should Real Madrid sell Mendy?

Mendy’s value at Los Blancos may never be higher, given that he faces a season with limited minutes, and a sale now would be the best outcome for all parties.

The defender made just 17 league starts last season, and with Nacho extending his contract at the club, it seems that he could even be the fourth-choice pick in his position.

Carlo Ancelotti clearly does not depend on the player, and will not stand in Mendy’s way if a bid is made for the France international.

Mendy has made 133 appearances for Los Merengues, but after an initially bright start, his overall dip in performance levels, as well as regular injury problems, means that his future is almost certainly away from Real Madrid.

Garcia is arriving from Rayo Vallecano after an impressive campaign, and the 23-year-old can be both the present and future for Real at left-back.

If Real can trade Mendy for Garcia, while also making a profit, it would be very impressive business, and Garcia’s arrival can also allow Camavinga to move back to a midfield role.

Mendy looks set to follow Eden Hazard, Mariano, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio out of the exit door, with Real Madrid building a squad full of elite young talents.
