Rangers are officially back in the big time.
Not only did Steven Gerrard lead them to a 55th Premiership title this past season – and their first major trophy in a decade – but now Ibrox is gearing up to host a huge friendly.
On July 25, Rangers host European giants Real Madrid in a pre-season clash.
And despite the fact that there’s no competitive element whatsoever, Gers fans will still be fascinated to see how their side fare against some very big names.
Here’s how some Real fans reacted to the announcement on Twitter:
This is the first time that the Madrid giants will have faced Rangers in Glasgow since the 1963-64 season, in the European Cup.
Of course, the Spanish side have won that competition no fewer than 13 times and Gerrard’s side will be hoping to qualify for it this summer.
Having won the Premiership last season, the light Blues will enter the Champions League at the qualifying stage.
Rangers will learn their third-round opposition on July 19 and the first leg will take place on August 3 or 4.
And no doubt a clash against Carlo Ancelotti’s side will whet the appetite for what could be a very difficult qualification phase.
