Carlo Ancelotti hails ‘untouchable’ Real Madrid player weeks after Arsenal interest failed

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has hailed Eduardo Camavinga after Arsenal’s rather ambitious interest in a January loan deal.

Camavinga was the source of surprise rumours late in the January transfer window.

Reports from the London Evening Standard suggested that Arsenal had shown an interest in taking Camavinga on loan.

That was a bold move given that Camavinga is one of the top wonderkids in world football but Edu was keen to try his luck.

Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid said no and didn’t allow Camavinga to make a late move to Elland Road.

Arsenal probably knew that would be the response, but hey – if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

Arsenal did end up landing a midfielder though as Jorginho arrived in a deadline day swoop from Chelsea.

Camavinga has now started 13 La Liga games this season as well as three in the Champions League.

Intriguingly though, the 20-year-old is being regularly deployed as a left back rather than as a midfielder.

This is something Didier Deschamps has toyed with as France manager and Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has been doing the same of late.

Whether Camavinga’s long-term future is in that role or whether he returns to playing in midfield remains to be seen.

This just goes to show Camavinga’s adaptability though and Ancelotti has now paid tribute to the Frenchman weeks after Arsenal’s interest failed.

Ancelotti has told the London Evening Standard that Camavinga is ‘very important’ to the Real squad.

The Italian highlighted that Camavinga ‘obviously made mistakes’ against Espanyol at the weekend but rebounded well.

Ancelotti added that Camavinga is completely ‘untouchable’ in the Real squad and will now be let go any time soon, meaning Arsenal will have to park their interest moving forward.

“Camavinga is very important, he’s doing very well,” said Ancelotti. “In the last game he obviously made mistakes, but by playing so well he makes us forget about all the bad things. Against Espanyol he made a big mistake, but then he played very well. He is untouchable today and he will be untouchable in the future as well,” he added.
