Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that Everton simply can’t expect to keep hold of Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti has been linked with the Real Madrid job tentatively with Zinedine Zidane thought to be departing at the end of the season.
And after Everton’s 1-0 defeat against Sheffield United, Crooks feels that the Toffees could be in danger of losing their manager.
“As for Everton, they can’t expect to keep a manager such as Carlo Ancelotti, when a team such as Real Madrid are sniffing and you struggle to get into Europe,” Crooks said.
Losing Ancelotti would be a blow for Everton, although the Italian did come in for some deserved criticism yesterday.
Everton’s defeat against Sheffield United was embarrassing for their players and manager.
The Blades have badly struggled this season and are already relegated, but the Toffees just could not find a way to break them down.
Everton’s home record has been dire this term, but this latest defeat is the most chastening of the lot, and is likely to sharpen minds ahead of the summer transfer window.
