Nir Bitton looked devastated to go off injured in Celtic’s win at Rangers on Sunday.
The Israel international left the field on the hour mark after colliding with hoardings on the side of the pitch at Ibrox.
The Celtic midfielder, who played in defence against the Gers, spent virtually the whole of 2018 on the sidelines with a knee injury, only returning in January of this year.
And Israel boss Andreas Herzog confirms that he’s likely to be absent for the upcoming international break, but admitted to The Scottish Sun that he didn’t know the full extent of the injury as of yet.
He said: “We will ask Celtic for a report, but it is very likely he won’t make it and I will have to call up a replacement.
“It’s a real disappointment for us because he has been getting plenty of game time at Celtic and playing well.”
For Bitton’s sake, you would hope that this isn’t a long-term issue.
As mentioned, the towering star, who stands at 6’5, has had his fair share of injury torment in the past, admitting earlier this year that he feared for his career.
The nature of Sunday’s injury in the Old Firm suggests that it’s nothing too sinister, but time will tell.
