Poyet is a big fan of Maurico Pochettino’s work at Tottenham Hotspur.
Real Betis manager Gus Poyet says that Mauricio Pochettino has done a unique job at Tottenham Hotspur and predicts a spectacular future should the club keep hold of its current squad, the Guardian report.
Tottenham have always favoured signing younger players and watching them develop at White Hart Lane, yet under Pochettino the bar in terms of quality and potential has certainly been raised.
Spurs challenged for the Premier League title last season, and after seven games this season they remain the only undefeated side in the top flight after beating Manchester City 2-0 a fortnight ago.
Former player Poyet has been impressed with Pochettino’s work in North London, and adds that in a few years he expects the current team to become spectacular with younger players reaching their potential.
“Mauricio Pochettino has done something unique: the great thing about Tottenham is that they’ll have seven or eight players at the perfect age in a few years – still young, but experienced. If he can keep that group, wow, it’ll be spectacular,” the Uruguayan told the Guardian.
On Dele Alli, he added; “Dele Alli is going to be a big player for a very long time”
Pochettino joined Tottenham from Southampton in the summer of 2014, and he soon started to implement his personality on the side as the team became younger, fitter and more hardworking out of possession.
For a moment last season it looked like Spurs would catch Leicester City and win their first top-flight title since 1961, but a late loss in form saw them eventually finish third behind rivals Arsenal.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the title, there remains a real buzz around Tottenham and the club’s younger players are only going to get better with more experience.
