Reading won the race to sign Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban on transfer deadline day, landing for the former Norwich forward on loan.

The Express reported that they beat competition from Leeds United, who were left without signing a striker at all.

Leeds and Reading are both battling to land play-off spots, with the Whites in fourth, one place ahead of the Berkshire side.

If Reading were hoping Grabban’s arrival would help them pull away, it hasn’t happened.

Grabban has not scored at all for the Royals in seven appearances, with goal shy Reading failing to net as a team in four of the games he has played.

Reading do not have any players in double figures yet this season, with Yann Kermorgant leading the side with nine goals.

Leeds meanwhile have Chris Wood on 22 goals in the league alone this campaign.

Grabban would have been more of a luxury for the Whites, an experienced back-up for Wood, while Reading have more of a need for him.

There is still time for him to be a success and recapture the form which saw him net 34 Championship goals between 2013 and 2015.

A play-off goal or two against Leeds would dramatically change the perspective on the deal, but right now he has given the Whites little reason to be jealous.
