Reading’s Niall Keown is backing Liam Lindsay to succeed in the Championship, after the Partick Thistle defender was linked with a move to Leeds United in January.
The Daily Record reported in December that Lindsay had been watched by Leeds boss Garry Monk, whose side are currently jostling with Reading – from whom Keown joined Partick on loan last month – for position in the second-tier play-offs.
Lindsay, a Jags academy product, has impressed at both ends this season, scoring seven goals in 30 league and cup appearances, and his employers are said to be seeking a “sizeable transfer fee” having recently handed the 21-year-old a new contract until 2019.
And should Lindsay get his move, the Championship would be a good match for his talents, according to Keown, whose father Martin won three Premier League titles for Arsenal.
“Liam could definitely cope with a move to England in the future,” said the on-loan defender. “I think the Championship, for instance, would play to his strengths.
“It’s quite varied, and he’s good enough to cope with the more physical teams who like to go long, and he’s also good when there are smaller strikers in and around him.
“He copes well with all sides to the game and I think he’d do well in that league.”
Were Leeds to move for Lindsay this summer, it is possible that he and Keown could line up for opposing promotion rivals next season.

The fourth-placed Whites are currently a point and a position better off than Jaap Stam’s Reading with 12 league games remaining.
