Everton goalkeeper Joao Virginia is struggling at Reading.

Reading boss Jose Gomes has told the Reading Chronicle that he now needs to give Everton loanee Joao Virginia time to recover from his mistake against Wolves.
Reading travelled up to Molineux on Wednesday night to take on Wolves in the Carabao Cup, in the hope of knocking out the Premier League side.
However, goalkeeper Virginia committed a major error to put the Royals behind, with Bruno Jordao’s long-range shot fumbled into the net by Virginia.
John Swift’s rabona cross set up Lucas Boye for a late equaliser, sending the game to penalties, but Swift and Boye both failed from the spot as Wolves advanced.
Reading will be disappointed to have taken the game all that way only to lose, and the performance of goalkeeper Virginia has been slammed on Twitter.
The Portuguese youngster was supposed to pick up first-team experience with the Royals, but isn’t playing in the league because Rafael Cabral is starting instead.

Virginia isn’t impressing in the cup either, and whilst Gomes has claimed he has confidence in Virginia, he knows it’s hard for a player of his age to deal with a mistake like last night, and wants to give him time to recover, which suggests he won’t be playing first-team football any time soon.
“I showed I had confidence in him because he started,” said Gomes. “But this kind of thing is hard for him, especially at his age. We need to give him time to recover and help him the best we can,” he added.
