After a disappointing 2015, new Reading boss Jaap Stam has turned the club into promotion contenders.
Bringing back former manager Brian McDermott for a second spell in charge, Reading were hoping for a turn in fortunes at the beginning of 2016.

McDermott moved quickly to try and strengthen his squad in January, despite limited funds, bringing in Bournemouth forward Yann Kermorgant.

But McDermott failed to push Reading’s season in the right direction, with the Royals finishing a lowly 17th.

Feeling a change of approach was needed, Reading parted ways with McDermott for the second time on the 27th of May.

Turning their attention to the Netherlands, Reading then appointed former Manchester United and AC Milan defender, Jaap Stam, as their new Head Coach.

Wasting no time in improving his squad, Stam worked hard to bring in a number of players, such as Joey van den Berg, John Swift, Roy Beerens and Liam Moore.

Under Stam, Reading have looked a team transformed this season, picking up 12 wins from their first 22 Championship matches, including a recent 2-3 against Blackburn Rovers.

With 2017 just around the corner, and the transfer window not far away, Reading will likely be looking to strengthen again in January, as the Royals push for promotion under their new Dutch manager.
