The player owned by Reading – who lost 2-1 at Birmingham City on Tuesday – is currently on loan to Oxford United.
The loaned out Reading striker, Sam Smith, has risked the wrath of his parent club’s fans after he appeared to take pleasure from Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat against Birmingham City.
Afterwards, the Birmingham manager, Garry Monk, posted the following message on Twitter.
And Smith, who left Reading to join Oxford United on a season-long loan in July, is among the near 2,000 people to have ‘liked’ the tweet – despite having no obvious connection to either Monk or Birmingham City.
A former Manchester United youth team player, Smith played 11 times for Reading last season – although only two of those appearances came after Paul Clement’s appointment as manager in March.
And things have yet to go to plan in Oxford, where Smith has scored just once in 14 appearances this season.
The 20-year-old still has two years to run on his Reading contract after this one, but incidents such as the above are only likely to accelerate his departure – assuming his behaviour was intentional.
