Reading’s on loan forward Lewis Grabban has vowed to end his 16 month wait without a league goal and is confident he can do it at the Madejski Stadium, as reports the Reading Chronicle.

The 29-year-old joined the Royals on loan from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, and while he scored in the League Cup for the Cherries against Preston North End this season, Grabban hasn’t scored a league goal since November 2015.

However, Grabban is determined to end that run at Reading, even if it means him playing slightly out of position on the wing, which is where Jaap Stam has deployed him at times – including the midweek 0-0 draw with leaders Newcastle United.

Game time at Dean Court has been scarce for Grabban, hence his loan move, and the 29-year-old believes this is the biggest factor as to why he hasn’t scored a league goal in so long, as opposed to a positional switch.

“I haven’t played a lot of games since scoring in the league,” Grabban said, as reported by the Reading Chronicle. “If I had played 100 games since I last scored then I would be worried, but I haven’t so it’s only a matter of time before it comes.

“I’ve played quite a lot on the wing throughout my career, so it’s not necessarily frustrating. The manager opted to put me on the right against Newcastle and I thought I did well.

“Obviously I want to be up there scoring goals, but you can still score goals from the wing.”

With 10 games to go, reading are currently fifth in the Championship, and are on course for a play-off spot at the end of the season, despite the ever-growing threat from seventh placed Fulham.

Stam’s side face a difficult away trip to Preston North End in their next Championship outing, before taking on sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday and then fourth placed Leeds United.
