Jordon Mutch has scored just once since moving to Reading on loan from Crystal Palace – meany Derby County won’t be losing much sleep.

Reading's Jordon Mutch

There was a time where Jordon Mutch was being likened to one Yaya Toure. Seriously. Blessed with a rocket right foot and the ability to drive through opposition midfields with the power of a raging bull and the grace of a galloping fawn, Mutch had everything to develop into one of the Premier League’s top midfield players.

Queens Park Rangers obviously thought so too, paying £6 million to keep the midfielder in the top flight after his Cardiff City side had suffered relegation at the end of the 2013/14 season, as reported by the BBC.

Yet, since that ill-judged move to Loftus Road, Mutch has done little to suggest he could hit the heights of Manchester City’s two-time title winning powerhouse. Moving to Crystal Palace at a £1.5 million loss after just half a season at QPR, Mutch is now plying his trade on loan at Reading after falling out of favour at Selhurst Park.

Form Mutch?

And his form at Jaap Stam’s promotion chasers means Derby County will be losing no sleep after attempting to sign him last summer as a replacement for Burnley-bound Jeff Hendrick, as reported by The Guardian.

The Rams may have thought Mutch could replicate Hendrick’s goal threat from midfield and ability to drive forwards from deep. But, since scoring on his Reading debut against Ipswich in February, the 25-year-old is yet to find the back of the net again.

And that is the last of his worries. His overall performances have been nothing short of abysmal at times. Completing 90 minutes on just four occasions, Mutch’s largely anonymous displays mean he ranks as one of the most disappointing signings in the Championship this season.

Derby fans have lamented the club wasting funds on ill-fitting players in recent seasons and evidence suggests Mutch would hardly have helped matters.
