The West Ham United youngster is on loan at Reading until the end of the season.

Given West Ham United’s problems at right-back this season, some Hammers fans will have wished the club had kept hold of Reece Oxford and tried him out wide rather than shipping him out on loan to Championship side Reading.

Alas, the centre-back-cum-holding-midfielder headed to the Royals, only to be overlooked before finally making his debut at the weekend against Preston North End.

Unfortunately for the player and his temporary club, he came on with Reading 3-0 down and that was how it remained. But at least the West Ham youngster got another taste of first-team action.

The 18-year-old is regarded as one of West Ham’s brightest prospects and anyone who saw him dominate against Arsenal two years ago will know exactly what they have at their disposal. So it is surprising Hammers manager Slaven Bilic has been so reluctant to use Oxford since.

After three matches on the bench and five out of the match day squad, Oxford finally made a 17-minute cameo for Reading on Saturday, and West Ham fans may be keen to hear how he got on.
