Reading are currently competing with Stoke City to remain in the second tier.

Reading Manager Jose Gomes looks on during the warm up for the Sky Bet Championship between Queens Park Rangers and Reading at Loftus Road on December 29, 2018 in London, England.

Reading fans are reacting to reports linking Jose Gomes with their Championship rivals Stoke City.

Gomes was sacked by Reading at the start of this month after overseeing a disappointing start to the new campaign.

In terms of league position, Stoke’s has been even worse – yet Nathan Jones remains at the helm for now.

But after back-to-back defeats eradicated the glimmer of hope brought by successive wins against Swansea City and Fulham, the axe could soon fall on Jones at the Bet365 Stadium.

According to The Sun, Gomes is one of the names that could be considered to succeed the Welshman.

Nathan Jones manager of Stoke City looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Preston North End and Reading at Deepdale on August 21, 2019 in Preston, England.

And this is what those of a Reading persuasion are saying about the prospect on Twitter…

Though only 49, Gomes has been in management for the best part of 20 years, occupying roles in Portugal, Saudi Arabi and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Reading.

The Royals currently sit 21st in the Championship – two positions and four points ahead of Stoke.
