Yann Kermorgant has revealed that he will retire when his contract runs out at Reading next summer.

The 35-year-old has been in fine form the Royals this season and his ten league goals have helped cement his side’s position in the Championship play-off places. He was rewarded with a new contract in February that extended his stay at the Madejski Stadium to the end of the 2017-2018 season.
The Frenchman declared that he will be retiring whatever the outcome of Reading’s season is next year. Kermorgant has also played for AFC Bournemouth, Charlton Athletic and Leicester City during his time in England.
Reading’s top goalscorer revealed his intentions in an interview with GetReading.
“I’m going to retire at the end of next season,” he said.
“That’s why I would love to get promotion and finish with my final season in the Premier League. That would be my dream.
“But whatever happens, it will be my last season next year.
“One of my aims at the start of the season was to be good enough to get another year because I wasn’t ready to retire this season.
“You have to be mentally ready to say ‘that’s my last one’.”

Kermorgant will be returning to his native France and has set his sights on a career in banking.
“So I think I am ready for next season. And I think it will be a good one because we are fighting for something great and we don’t know yet where we will be next season.
“But whatever happens I will retire because I have been away from my family and friends for a long time.”
Despite his age, Kermorgant will be hoping to not only help guide Reading to the Premier League but also play a role in their possible return to the top flight. The centre forward is no stranger to promotion success after helping guide Bournemouth to the Championship title in 2015.
