Norwich City are still searching for a new manager after sacking Alex Neil earlier this month, and a move for Southend United boss Phil Brown should at least be considered.
Phil Brown has been in charge at Southend United for over four years
Brown is currently working his magic at Roots Hall and is in the midst of leading his side into a dramatic promotion push. The former Derby County, Hull City and Preston North End boss marked his four-year milestone with the club with a 2-0 away victory at AFC Wimbledon. The result tightened the Shrimpers’ hold on a League One play-off place.
The 57-year-old led the Essex club to success last season after a dramatic win in the League Two play-off final. Brown has previously won promotion to the Premier League with Hull City back in 2008.
Brown told BBC Essex, as reported by the BBC, he had an ulterior motive when dropping down the leagues to accept the Southend job. “I started off a job four years ago to prove the world of football wrong,” Brown said.
He is now the 11th longest serving manager in England’s top four divisions. If he is to lead Southend to a back-to-back promotions then he will not be short of suitors for next year.
Securing a third promotion in his career would give him a reputation as being a promotion specialist and this is something Norwich will be looking for in their next appointment.
Norwich City have endured a disappointing campaign
Despite there being a faint chance of promotion via the play-offs, they are more than likely going to be playing Championship football next season. They parted ways with Neil earlier this month following a disappointing season that sees the Canaries sitting outside the play-off places.
A number of high profile names have been linked with the vacant manager’s job at Carrow Road, however the position may be perfect for Brown who has successfully rebuilt his reputation in English football.
While a potential move for the Southend boss may not excite Norwich supporters, Brown and Norwich could be a perfect fit.
Norwich City fans will be hoping for a swift return to the Premier League
