RB Leipzig have been handed a positive piece of injury news in the form of Christopher Nkunku, with the French international set to be fit to face Manchester City later this month.

According to L’Equipe, the 25-year-old attacker will be available to face the reigning Premier League champions and current favourites for the UEFA Champions League in two weeks time, with Nkunku being out on the injury table since tearing a knee ligament on international duty.

Whilst the injury kept Nkunku out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the tear wasn’t bad enough to rule the forward out until the end of the season, with the former PSG star now set to return to full fitness soon and be in line to start for Leipzig against City.

The Bundesliga side have already faced City in the Champions League when the two sides met last season in the group stages, where Nkunku scored a brilliant hat-trick against Pep Guardiola’s side in a staggering 6-3 loss for the east German giants.

Indeed, Nkunku has since agreed a £63m move to Chelsea that will go through at the end of the season, and with the news that the forward is set to return from injury against their Premier League rivals City, the versatile attacker has a big chance to impress his new employers later this month.

As for City, their week has gone from bad to worse following the bombshell Premier League announcement on Monday that could see the Manchester giants kicked out of the division, with a fully-fit Nkunku the last thing Guardiola wanted to face in Europe.

This week has been nothing short of a nightmare for City, with the Premier League’s bombshell statement sending shockwaves around the footballing world and leaving the club’s entire future hanging in the balance. And news that Nkunku is now set to return from injury is a big worry, as well.

After all, the French attacker stole the show for Leipzig the last time these two sides met, and with City being rocked to the core with these financial breaches, Nkunku could now have the chance to eliminate the Manchester side from the Champions League.
