RB Leipzig director of sports Ralf Rangnick has been commenting on how his club snapped up Oliver Burke from Nottingham Forest.

The German side beat a number of top clubs in England to sign Burke, for a fee reported by the Daily Mail to be in the region of £13 million.

The Scotland international’s move was a shock toward the end of the transfer window, especially as he was heading to the Bundesliga, and because Nottingham Forest fans did not expect to see Burke sold at this time.

Speaking to Eurosport this week Rangnick had this to say about bringing in the Scottish powerhouse:

“The transfer ended up being a very short-term action, as we had to be very fast.

“On the one hand because of the transfer window, and secondly, because even English clubs became aware of him after the great start to the season.

“It was a night-and-dagger operation; we took him right after the game against Leeds to Leipzig.”

He then went on to speak about Burke, in particular his off-field personality – which drew Rangnick to the player even more:

“We quickly realized that he is a really great kid.

“He does not drink alcohol, has no tattoos and by his own account has not been in a fast-food restaurant for some years. (Players like) that there are now not too many.”

Burke’s loss has been keenly felt by Forest, who miss his attacking purpose in the wide areas.

The club brought in plenty of options to replace them, but none have the verve of Burke – who had scored four goals in seven games for Forest before his move to Germany, including in his final appearance v Leeds.

But Forest fans will still be waiting a long time to see a talent like Burke come through again.
