RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff says Liverpool must meet Timo Werner’s release clause after reports the Reds want to sign him for cheaper, Bild report.
Werner showcased his talent again last weekend as he netted a superb hat-trick during Leipzig’s 5-0 rout at Bundesliga strugglers Mainz.
The striker is now three goals short of Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowski.

Liverpool have long been linked with Werner. According to Sky Sports, the striker is keen on a move to Anfield this coming summer.
And fresh reports from Bild say Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool to sign him. However, the German is seeking a cheaper deal with Mintzlaff responding in kind.
“It won’t get any cheaper. We will not sell a player below value if he is under contract for more than a year. In general, we always have to ask the following question: can we replace a player if we sell him for less than his market value? We will have complete control over the situation. I am relaxed. Timo has a contract over the next three years,” Mintzlaff explained.
Werner has a 55 million euros release clause in his contract (roughly £49 million).
The German international has posted 24 goals and seven assists in 26 Bundesliga starts.
Liverpool already have arguably Europe’s best front three in Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and centre-forward Robert Firmino. But Werner could add a different proposition.
The 24-year-old is more direct, runs in behind and is a renowned goal scorer. While Firmino comes short and plays as a false 9, Werner is the opposite.
The Covid-19 suspension has caused a strain on football finances across Europe. Bild suggest Liverpool are seeking a cheaper deal, but Leipzig won’t budge.
