Leicester City are resigned to losing Riyad Mahrez this summer and they should consider Everton outcast Gerard Deulofeu as his replacement.

Leicester City would be wise to take a look at the option of making a move for Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu this summer.

Leicester will be preparing for life after Riyad Mahrez, with the influential winger recently announcing his intentions to leave the club this summer (Guardian), and a host of clubs are lining up to secure the signature of the Algerian international.

The 26-year-old was a key figure in helping the Foxes secure the club’s first ever top-flight title in 2016. He was named the PFA Player of the Year during that remarkable campaign and recently helped the club reach the quarter finals of this season’s Champions League.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are the latest club interested in Mahrez, joining Arsenal and Barcelona in the race for the Premier League winner.

Wherever Mahrez ends up playing next season, Leicester will be without an influential wide player and Deulofeu would be a viable option to fill the void.

Deulofeu has endured a tough spell on Merseyside since joining Everton. He enjoyed a fruitful loan spell in 2013/14 campaign and this convinced them to buy him permanently from Barcelona in 2015.

Since being with the Toffees on a permanent basis, he has failed to recapture his form and after an inconsistent run of performances at the start of last season, Everton boss Ronald Koeman sent him on loan to Serie A giants AC Milan.

Despite impressing in Italy, there has been no talk of his move to the San Siro becoming a permanent one and for now, the Spaniard looks like he will return to Goodison Park.

The 23-year-old has proven he is able to perform in the Premier League and a move to Leicester, who have improved under Craig Shakespeare’s stewardship, could be just what he needs to reignite his career.
