Hull City will look to strengthen their midfield options and should target Joe Ledley, especially if Tom Huddlestone leaves the club.
Joe Ledley is now a free agent following his release from Crystal Palace
Hull City should target free agent Joe Ledley, who has recently been released by Premier League side Crystal Palace.
The 30-year-old would be an ideal replacement for Tom Huddlestone, who has been linked with a summer transfer move away from the KCOM Stadium.
West Bromwich Albion are reportedly monitoring the situation of Huddlestone, who is said to have a £2million release clause in his contract (Sun).
Tom Huddlestone has been linked with a move to Premier League side West Brom
The Tigers have already lost key defender Curtis Davies to Championship rivals Derby County and Huddlestone could be the next first-team player through the exit door, as Hull prepare for life in England’s second tier following last season’s relegation.
Huddlestone has been an influential figure in the City midfield since joining the club in 2013. He has played 161 games for Hull and the 30-year-old will be keen to continue plying his trade in the Premier League.
If Huddlestone does leave the club then this will leave new Hull boss Leonid Slutsky with limited options in central midfield.
Joe Ledley made just 18 Premier League for Crystal Palace last season
Securing the signature of Wales international Ledley would go some way to softening the blow of losing Huddlestone.
The Welsh international would serve as a like-for-like replacement if he does make a move to Humberside, like Huddlestone he operates in a defensive midfield role but is comfortable with playing in a more advanced role if required.
Ledley may need to consider dropping down to the Championship to give himself the best possible chance of getting a good number of games under his belt if Wales are to reach the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.
A move to Hull would provide that opportunity and give the Tigers a much needed boost in their chances of an immediate return to the Premier League.
