Barnsley are currently short of midfield options and former Blackburn Rovers captain Jason Lowe would be the perfect signing to plug this hole.
Jason Lowe left Blackburn Rovers after seeing out his contract
Barnsley should make signing former Blackburn Rovers captain Jason Lowe a priority this summer.
Lowe is currently a free agent after being released by Blackburn following their relegation to League One and a move to Oakwell should be considered if the opportunity did arise.
Jason Lowe joined Blackburn at the age of 12
Lowe progressed through the Blackburn academy after joining at the age of 12 and he played 203 games for Rovers in a seven-year spell in the first team.
His natural position is in the centre of midfield but is able to operate as a defensive midfielder as well as right-back. Despite not being able to prevent Blackburn’s relegation, Lowe had his most productive season in recent memory after spending previous campaigns primarily on the treatment table.
It is likely that Lowe will not be short of offers in the summer as he plans his next move, West Bromwich Albion and Hull City were linked with a move for the former England U21 international in March (Daily Mail).
Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen will leave the club in the summer
If Barnsley were to make a move for Lowe then it will be seen as an ambitious one as he will arguably have more lucrative offers on the table.
The Tykes are currently short of options in central midfield. Josh Scowen will leave in the summer after deciding against extending his contract at the club and Matty James has returned to parent club Leicester City.
The opportunity to sign a player of Lowe’s calibre and Championship experience does not come around often, so Barnsley should do all they can to convince Lowe that his future lies at Oakwell.
