Ray Wilkins suggests Virgil van Dijk is perfect for Chelsea

Should Chelsea make a move for former Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk?

Former Rangers and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Ray Wilkins suggested on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, December 2, 2016) that Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk would be a good signing for Chelsea.

Van Dijk has been a hit in the Premier League since his move from Celtic to Southampton in the summer of 2015.

As reported by BBC Sport at the time, the Saints had to pay Scottish Premiership giants Celtic a transfer fee of £13 million in order to secure the services of the Netherlands international defender.

The 25-year-old centre-back has progressed steadily in the Premier League and has established himself as one of the best in his position in the division.

According to a recent report in The Mirror, Manchester United, Manchester City and Everton all are interested in the Dutchman.

Wilkins believes that Van Dijk would be a good signing for his former club Chelsea.

“Well, Van Dijk has had a fantastic time since he has come down Celtic, almost looked a little bit of a snip for what Southampton got him for,” said Wilkins on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, December 2, 2016).

“He has improved and he looks a very good defender. He would bring on the youngsters coming through as well because he is excellent on the communication side of stuff. He would be a perfect fit.”

Chelsea are going strong in the Premier League at the moment and are in genuine contention of the title.

Antonio Conte’s side are are currently at the top of the standings with 34 points from 14 matches.
