Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa side are believed to be close to snapping up John Terry.
Ray Wilkins has suggested to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 22nd June, that John Terry would be making a great move by taking up Aston Villa’s offer.
Villa are believed to have handed Terry the chance to sign a hefty contract with them.
And Wilkins believes that the move could work out well for everyone, if Terry accepts Steve Bruce’s side’s offer.
“I think it could be a great move for him,” Wilkins said. “Steve is looking beyond the playing side for John, but to have him around the place will be great for the dressing room.
“Steve’s not necessarily signing him just for the playing ability, it’s for the person as well. He’s also a British person, and that’s what you need down there.”
Terry’s arrival at Villa would raise eyebrows, and it would be a statement of intent from Bruce’s men ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Villa are not believed to have masses of transfer funds to spend this summer, but Terry’s availability on a free transfer is thought to have caught their eye.
Bruce has a good relationship with the 36-year-old defender, and that could stand the Midlands club in good stead in the race for his signature.
Villa face competition from a range of clubs, including West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City, in their race to sign Terry.
