Ray Wilkins suggests Jamaal Lascelles should have started v Leicester

Newcastle United lost against Leicester City in the Premier League at the weekend.

Ray Wilkins has been quoted as saying by The Chronicle that Jamaal Lascelles should have started for Newcastle United against Leicester City at the weekend.

Lascelles was left as an unused substitute during Newcastle’s Premier League game against Leicester at St. James’ Park in the Premier League last Saturday evening.

The 24-year-old is one of the best players in the current Magpies’ team and is a very good defender.

Without the former Nottingham Forest star, Rafael Benitez’s side suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Leicester.

Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Wilkins has suggested that Lascelles should have started for Newcastle against Leicester.

The Chronicle quotes Wilkins as saying: “I was very surprised that Lascelles was left on the bench yesterday.

“If he was fit enough to be on the bench I would have thrown him in to be perfectly honest.

“He has been a stalwart for Newcastle this year and has scored some vital goals, so that surprised me a touch.”

Newcastle’s defeat to Leicester at St. James’ Park means that they are in genuine danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

The Magpies are 16th in the Premier League table at the moment with just 15 points from 16 games, only two points above the relegation zone.
