Tottenham Hotspur currently sit in fifth spot in the Premier League table.

New Aston Villa assistant coach Ray Wilkins looks on before the pre season friendly between Walsall and Aston Villa at Banks' Stadium on July 25, 2015 in Walsall, England.

Ray Wilkins was a guest on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily programme on Wednesday 27th December, and responded when asked whether Spurs will finish inside the top four this season.

Tottenham seem to have got their season back on track, after a sticky patch in the Premier League last month, winning four of their last five outings.

They currently sit in fifth position in the table, one point adrift of fourth placed Liverpool, and with Pep Guardiola’s rampant Manchester City side currently running away in the race for the title, Spurs will surely now be prioritising a top four finish.

Mauricio Pochettino deserves great credit for the work that he has done since his appointment as manager of Tottenham in May 2014, but that will all be forgotten, if he fails to guide his side to a finish inside the Champions League places this season.

Wilkins, though, is confident that the Lilywhites will secure a top four finish this term.

He offered high words of praise for Spurs, during a guest appearance on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily programme, on Wednesday December 27th:

“With City running away with it, the competition for the next three places is immense, but I think Tottenham have the ability with out any shadow of a doubt. They seem to have got over the Wembley hoodoo, and they are creating and scoring goals for fun.”

Next up for Spurs is a trip to rock-bottom Swansea City on January 2nd, and nothing less than a win will do, as they look to keep the pressure up on those above them in the table.
