Aston Villa won just three Premier League matches throughout the entirety of this past season.
Ray Wilkins has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 31st May, that Aston Villa should have learnt not to act too swiftly, after their disastrous season.
Villa went down having won just three league matches, and accumulating one of the worst points totals in Premier League history.
The Claret and Blues had three different managers this past season, with Tim Sherwood, Remi Garde and Eric Black all failing to spark the Midland side’s players into life.
Wilkins was Sherwood’s assistant at Villa, and he feels that the club’s problems all started when they decided to sack Sherwood after just 10 matches.
“Not to act too swiftly,” Wilkins said, when asked what Villa would have learnt from this season.
“They were far too quick in sacking Tim, he was doing a good job and would have kept them up. It was always a club that was going to struggle this season.”
Villa are now preparing for life in the Championship, and a number of changes are expected to be made.
The Villains still have not appointed a new manager, while a series of players are expected to depart.
Wilkins believes that Villa should be looking to bring in British based players, as they aim to rebuild their squad.
“I think they need a clear out and if players come in I think it should be British based players,” he said.
The current favourite to land the Villa manager’s job is believed to be Roberto Di Matteo.
