The Everton striker has still not agreed terms on a new contract with the club.
Ray Wilkins
Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Premier League daily show on Wednesday March 15th, Sky Sports pundit Ray Wilkins shared his opinion that Chelsea will make an attempt to sign Everton contract-rebel Romelu Lukaku, but explained that they will probably have to pay at least double the amount they sold him for just two-and-a-half years ago.
The 23-year-old has been in sensational form for the Toffees this season, scoring 19 goals in 27 Premier League appearances thus far, helping his team climb to seventh in the table.
And Ronald Koeman’s men still harbour ambitions of forcing their way inside the top four.
But the uncertainty surrounding Lukaku’s future will surely not help their chances of doing just that.
And Wilkins told Sky Sports that he would not be surprised to see his former club Chelsea make a move for the big Belgian in the summer:
Everton’s Romelu Lukaku celebrates
“I wouldn’t put it past Chelsea to go back in for him (Lukaku). They sold him at £28 million, they’re going to have to pay at least double to get him back. They will probably have to pay £60 million for him.”
The problem for Lukaku us that if he does indeed move away from Everton to a club like Chelsea, he will not be a guaranteed starter, like he is at Goodison Park.
And he might be better served by staying on Merseyside for a couple more years at least, as he looks to continue his development.
