The former Rangers midfielder believes the Old Firm derby against Celtic harbours the best stadium atmosphere in world football

Ray Wilkins knows all about playing and scoring in an Old Firm derby and the former Rangers man was full of praise for the game ahead of Saturday’s clash at Celtic Park.
The former England international joined Rangers in 1987 and went on to make 70 league appearances for the club, scoring two goals.
And one of those goals was a famous strike against Celtic as Rangers came from a goal down to beat their bitter rivals 5-1 at Ibrox at the start of the 1988/89 season.

It’s a goal that Wilkins and many Gers fans will never forget as the midfielder unleashed a stunning edge of the box volley that flew straight into the corner of the goal.
You can relive the moment below…
But with the first Old Firm derby in the Scottish top flight since 2012 fast approaching, Wilkins was keen to give his thoughts on what it’s like to play in one of football’s most intense fixtures.
“The atmosphere is unbelievable,” he told Sky Sports News HQ.
“It will be fantastic to see Celtic Park chocker block to the rafters and the atmosphere is second to none in world football.
“The supporters almost demand that it’s gladiatorial. But the atmosphere, I can honestly never say I’ve been in a better one.”
