Everton appointed former Southampton boss Ronald Koeman as their new manager yesterday.
Ray Wilkins has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast programme, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 15th June, that he feels Ronald Koeman will be a good appointment for Everton.
Koeman’s arrival at Everton was finally confirmed yesterday, after weeks of speculation over his future.
Everton quickly targeted Koeman after sacking Roberto Martinez, but the Dutch boss initially seemed set on staying with Southampton.
However, after weeks of negotiations, Koeman was persuaded to move to Goodison Park.
And Wilkins said: “I think Koeman has been outstanding. He was waiting for something bigger to come along, and he obviously feels he has that at Everton. I think he’ll do well.”
Koeman took over at Southampton from Mauricio Pochettino, and guided the south coast club to seventh and sixth placed finishes in the Premier League during his two seasons in charge.
Koeman kept Southampton competing at the top end of the Premier League table, despite having to sell many of his key players.
The 53-year-old boss’s task at Everton will be help them start competing for Europe.
Everton finished in 11th place last season, but they are reportedly prepared to hand Koeman a £100 million transfer budget to improve his Toffees squad.
