Ray Wilkins has told Sky Sports that he finds it baffling that Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has allowed his agent Mino Raiola to speak about his future so openly.

Raiola has previously suggested that Lukaku would be signing a new contract at Everton, but those comments now appear to be wide of the mark.

Lukaku has recently come out and stated that he will not be signing a new deal at Goodison Park, which has plunged his future into doubt.

And Wilkins finds it baffling why Lukaku has allowed his agent to have made such statements.

“We never hear from the player and it saddens me a touch when the player doesn’t come out and say ‘this is what I actually want to do’,” the former Aston Villa and Chelsea assistant manager said.

“Mr Raiola comes out and says 99.99 per cent signing with Everton, now all of a sudden it falls on Romelu, who says I’m not signing. Nothing to do with Mr Raiola, which baffles me.”

Lukaku’s current deal at Everton is due to expire at the end of next season.

The Toffees are understood to be determined to keep hold of the Belgian international, but they now face a fight – with a host of clubs monitoring the situation.

Lukaku has netted 19 league goals for Everton this season, which puts him joint top of the Premier League’s scoring charts.

Lukaku’s goals have helped lift Everton up to seventh place in the top flight.
