Queens Park Rangers are currently in 17th place in the Championship table.

Ray Wilkins has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 14th November, that Queens Park Rangers could still make the play offs under Ian Holloway this season.

Holloway has taken over from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at QPR, after the London side’s disappointing start to the season.

Rangers are currently in 17th place in the Championship table, and they have failed to win any of their last three matches.

However, Wilkins believes that Holloway will turn things around at QPR over the coming months.

Rangers are still only six points back from the top six, and Wilkins believes that a promotion push is still possible.

“He knows all about QPR, and he knows the way the club has to be run,” he said. “I think it’ll be a good appointment, but it’ll be results which say whether it’ll be good or bad.

“He has to make Loftus Road into a bit of a fortress. One of those sides [in the bottom half] will make one hell of a run. Why shouldn’t it be QPR?”

Holloway will be tasked with working alongside QPR director of football Les Ferdinand during his time at Loftus Road.

Ferdinand performs a key role at QPR, and Wilkins feels that the former Newcastle and Tottenham striker’s relationship with Holloway will be crucial to the partnership working.

“I think that’s the important thing [to be in harmony],” Wilkins added. “I think Les and Jimmy had that, and it was a tough decision for Les to have to relieve Jimmy of his post.”

Holloway’s first match in charge of QPR will come against Norwich City at Loftus Road this weekend.
