Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at Wembley yesterday.

Ray Wilkins has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 21st August, that he was baffled by Tottenham Hotspur’s usage of Dele Alli against Chelsea yesterday.

Tottenham were beaten 2-1 by Antonio Conte’s side at Wembley yesterday, and they failed to create as many chances as expected.

Chelsea’s defence throughout the contest was resolute, and although Spurs’ performance arguably deserved better than a defeat, Wilkins still felt that Mauricio Pochettino’s tactics were questionable.

He said: “I couldn’t quite understand why they used Dele Alli on the left hand side as much as they did. Whether that was a ploy to stop Moses going forward, I’ve no idea.

“But when you’re playing at home, don’t worry too much about the opposition, worry about what you do.”

Alli wasn’t at his best for Spurs against Chelsea, but he is already off the mark for the campaign.

The England international scored for Tottenham on the opening day of the season, when he found the back of the net in a 2-0 win against Newcastle United.

Spurs’ defeat to Chelsea yesterday was highly disappointing, but concerns about the Lilywhites’ form at Wembley are still limited at the moment.

Tottenham looked strong throughout the contest against their London rivals, but were undone by their own errors in the match.

Spurs are next in action against Burnley, when they will be under big pressure to pick up three points at their temporary home for the season.
