West Ham United winger Michail Antonio was not named in England’s squad for their upcoming matches.
Ray Wilkins has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 7th November, that West Ham United midfielder Michail Antonio is not good enough for England.
Antonio was excluded from Gareth Southgate’s England squad, for the Three Lions’ upcoming matches against Spain and Scotland and it was a controversial decision.
Antonio has become a key player for West Ham over the past two seasons, since signing from Nottingham Forest.
However, Wilkins does not believe that Antonio has the ability to make the step up to international level.
“Antonio? No, not for me,” Wilkins said. “To make the level up to international football, I just don’t think he is there.”
Antonio has shown his versatility while representing West Ham, and has had to play in a range of positions.
The 26-year-old has played at right-back and right-midfield, while he has also been utilised as a striker by Slaven Bilic recently.
Antonio has scored five goals for West Ham in 17 appearances so far this season, and he has been one of the Hammers’ most consistent players.
West Ham did not have one player named in Southgate’s England squad, with Mark Noble also missing out on receiving a call-up.
