Tottenham have reportedly reached a stalemate during talks with the striker regarding a new deal at White Hart Lane.

Ray Parlour has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT that was broadcast on November 14th that Harry Kane probably does want to sign a new deal with Tottenham Hotspur, but may feel forced to consider his options.

The Sun reports that talks over a new contract for the striker have been called off for now after Spurs refused to make the 23-year-old one of the highest earners at White Hart Lane.

The Sun adds that Kane – whose current deal expires in 2020 – earns £35,000 a week less than struggling summer signing Moussa Sissoko, and is attracting attention from several Premier League heavyweights.

And while Parlour believes that Kane will want to stay put despite the current stalemate, and he expects Tottenham to make a more attractive offer in the future, he suggested that Daniel Levy is perhaps playing a dangerous game.

“He probably wants to play for Spurs,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show that was broadcast on talkSPORT on November 14th.

“He knows it’s an exciting time to play for Spurs because all the players around him are signing new contracts, Pochettino’s signed a new contract, they’ve got a new stadium coming very soon so I don’t think Harry will want to leave.

“But, again, money will talk and if they don’t give him the right money or the money he thinks he deserves then maybe he does look elsewhere.

“I’m sure that Tottenham won’t be that naive to say we’re going to let him go because we won’t change our pay structure, because Harry’s such an important player,” he would later add.

Kane’s attitude since he emerged into the first-team would certainly suggest that he will have no problem remaining fully focused on matters on the pitch during this period of uncertainty. However, it would surely still be a smart move for Spurs to reward him with an improved deal.

If he begins to feel unappreciated by the club’s hierarchy, then it may be more difficult for him at some point down the line to find a reason to reject a much more lucrative offer from elsewhere.

And while it is too early to write Vincent Janssen off as a flop, his form since his arrival in the summer should highlight how difficult it would be for Tottenham to replace Kane, especially if they are not willing to splash the kind of cash that would have tempted the England star to stay in the first place.
