Leeds United have made a fantastic start to the season in the Championship, topping the table after nine games.
Ray Parlour has told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 26th September 2017; 6:50 am) that it is great to see Elland Road being filled again after Leeds’ brilliant start to the season.
The Whites currently top the Championship table after nine games, with six victories and two draws coming from the opening weeks of the campaign.
The good feeling on the pitch is matched by the optimism off it, with BBC Sport reporting that 34,002 attended Leeds’ 3-2 win over Ipswich at the weekend, making it the third time in a row that the Whites had attracted a crowd of over 30,000.
And while Parlour urged Thomas Christiansen’s men to not get carried away after their start to the campaign, he suggested that he was delighted to see Elland Road become such a fortress in recent times.
“You had that spell when no-one was going and it’s such a great stadium. And now it’s packed out every week, they’re really excited about it and they should be as well because they lost their main striker in Chris Wood but they’ve brought some great players in and they’re going really well at the moment.
“But it’s a long, hard season, they might be top at the moment but they’ve just got to keep it going now. They’ve only played nine games.”
While Leeds have boasted one of the better average attendances every year since they fell out of the Premier League in 2004 – BBC Sport reports that their average for a season has not dropped below 20,000 in that time – it does appear that the support has moved to another level this term.
And Christiansen’s men will be hoping that they can continue to give the fans reasons to keep coming back in their droves as it will surely boost their chances of still being in the promotion picture come the end of the season.
