Ray Parlour believes that Jack Wilshere would have boosted West Ham United’s chances of beating West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

Ray Parlour has told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 19th September 2017; 8:37 am) that West Ham would have benefited from having Jack Wilshere in their side during their goalless draw with West Brom at the weekend.
The Daily Star recently reported that Wilshere was on the Hammers’ radar during the summer transfer window before the club was put off by his £20 million asking price.

However, the Star now suggests that the England international is now hoping that West Ham will make a fresh move in January as he is resigned to the fact that he will not be extending his Arsenal contract that expires this summer.
And while some Irons fans may be sceptical about targeting Wilshere due to his injury record, Parlour suggested that having the 25-year-old in their ranks may have boosted their chances of beating the Baggies last weekend in a game that ultimately ended in a stalemate.

“I watched their midfield on Saturday against the Albion, and they had Obiang and Kouyate, who I really like to be fair, he gets around the pitch, he’s got good energy in central midfield,” he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT.
“But they could have really done with someone like Jack Wilshere because he’s a player who can see a pass. A lot of it was square or backward, but he can see a pass going forward.”
Despite Parlour’s endorsement, there will surely be plenty of West Ham fans who will need to see Wilshere play fairly regularly over the coming months before they feel optimistic that any January or summer bid would not be too great a gamble.
But if the Hammers do take that gamble and he can stay fit and can rediscover his best form, then it could potentially be a masterstroke of a deal for West Ham.
