Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez and Steven Gerrard have a good relationship from their time at Liverpool together.

Ray Parlour has suggested on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 16th November, that Newcastle United should make a move for Steven Gerrard.

LA Galaxy confirmed that Gerrard would be leaving them, with the experienced midfielder now looking for a new club.

And Parlour believes that Newcastle should make the 36-year-old an offer, even if it is just to be part of the coaching team at St. James’ Park.

“Would he join Newcastle as a coach, under Rafael Benitez?,” Parlour questioned. “That would be a big, big name. Newcastle fans would love that, someone of his calibre involved in the club.”

Gerrard made 38 appearances for LA Galaxy and scored five times during his time in MLS.

Gerrard is currently strongly linked with a move to Celtic, but the central midfielder is yet to make his mind up on his next destination.
