Ray Parlour says the Liverpool ace is higher on the shortlist than the Tottenham Hotspur man for England’s armband.
Ray Parlour has told talkSPORT that he would be “amazed” if Tottenham Hotspur hitman Harry Kane is named as England’s next captain, suggesting that Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson is the best candidate.
The Mail reported this week that the 23-year-old striker is the “leading candidate” to replace Wayne Rooney as the Three Lions’ next permanent skipper.
The armband will be vacant after the World Cup in 2018, and it seems like the Tottenham man is favourite to get it.

But Parlour is not convinced that the Spurs man is right choice.
The former Arsenal midfielder went on to assess other candidates, and believes Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has a shot of usurping Rooney as skipper.
“I’d be amazed by that,” Parlour said on talkSPORT when it was put to him that Kane could be the next captain.

“But Harry, look, he’s a superb player. It was a relief for Spurs fans to see him back on the pitch in the North London derby.
“Jordan Henderson’s done a good job at Liverpool, so he’ll have a real good chance. You can maybe pin your hopes on John Stones, but certainly I think Henderson, at the moment, will be behind Rooney as skipper.”
The Tottenham star may not be the archetypal leader, but he is someone who can lead by example and perhaps that sort of character could benefit England.
