Ray Parlour shares his Tottenham & Arsenal top-four predictions

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will contest the first North London derby of the new Premier League campaign at the start of September.

Ray Parlour has backed Tottenham to finish in the top-four this season but claimed that Arsenal will once again miss out on Champions League football.

The new Premier League season is set to resume in less than a fortnights time, with the feeling that this could be the season that one of the so-called ‘big six’ finish outside of the European places.

Arsenal and Manchester United still need to sort out their squads, especially from a defensive standpoint, whilst Chelsea have lost Eden Hazard and are under a transfer embargo.

Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSport, one set of supporters will fume at Parlour predicting for them to finish outside of the top-four.

“At this present time, I know there are a lot of deals to be done,” Parlour told TalkSport. “You would definitely put Spurs in third. They haven’t lost any players. They have bought one in. The stadium looks immaculate. They’ll enjoy playing their as well.

“Fourth place is really up for grabs. I really don’t know how Frank is going to do. If I were to stick my neck out, I would go Chelsea fourth place. I am hoping Arsenal will get it. I am really worried about the defensive situation.”

There is still some time left for those in the top-six to freshen up their squads, and if they do then the business they conduct from now until the deadline might end up being pivotal in what happens to them at the end of the season.

For large parts of last season, Spurs were continually delaying their move into their new stadium. Plus, their decision not to purchase any players was also playing a part in them dragging themselves over the top-four line.

As for Unai Emery’s men, their home form was outstanding, but their away form proved to be very costly and if they could sort out their defence by the slightest of margins then the rewards could be huge.
