Ray Parlour says Tottenham player is better than £278k-a-week Real Madrid superstar

Ray Parlour has told TalkSPORT he believes Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane is better than Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema – discussing whether England could beat France in a potential World Cup quarter-final.

England begin their World Cup campaign on Monday, a day after the start of the tournament, with a clash against Iran. France take to the pitch on Tuesday, when they begin their campaign against Australia in Group D.

England are expected to win Group B, while many believe Netherlands are expected to finish above Senegal in Group A. That would see England take on Senegal in the last 16. The chances are, France meet Poland or Mexico.

Again, England and France will be favourites to meet either of those sides in the last eight. Parlour discussed whether England could beat France and gave his verdict on Kane and Benzema – picking the Spurs man on top.

“I worry about France in the quarter-finals, I know they’re missing players in midfield,” Parlour said. “It’s a 50/50 throw of a coin, France maybe slightly better. Dembele, Benzema, Mbappe, they’ve got some front three.

“Benzema has been on fire hasn’t he, Ballon d’Or winner. But you’ve got to say Kane is probably better than Benzema, no? It’s a tough one. Mbappe might get the golden boot, for me,” Parlour continued, on TalkSPORT.

A huge claim – and from an unlikely source in the form of an Arsenal legend. Kane of course, is one of the best strikers in the world – top three, kind of talent. But Benzema, as Parlour states, is a Ballon d’Or winner.

Right now in terms of quality, you would have to say Madrid striker Benzema is a better striker. Although, his form has been hampered by injury this term – scoring six goals in 12 games. Kane has 13 goals in 22 games for Spurs.

You would rather have Kane, given Benzema turns 35 in December. But, in terms of quality right now, £278k-a-week Benzema is surely the best striker when comparing the two, and probably the best no.9 at the World Cup.
