Newcastle United have been linked with Troy Deeney of Watford in the January transfer window.

Ray Parlour has suggested to Sky Sports that Watford striker Troy Deeney would be a good signing for Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

According to The Sun, Newcastle are interested in signing Deeney from Premier League rivals Watford.

Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes that the 29-year-old striker would be a good signing for the Magpies.

Parlour told Sky Sports about Deeney and Newcastle: “I would say someone like Newcastle would be perfect for him, absolutely perfect. Centre-forward, and I think the crowd would really get behind him as well.”

Newcastle are struggling for survival in the Premier League at the moment, and Rafael Benitez’s side do need to sign a striker before the January transfer window shuts on Wednesday.

Deeney would be a good signing for the Magpies, but it seems that the former Walsall star could be on his way to West Bromwich Albion.

According to Sky Sports, West Brom have made contact with Watford to discuss the prospect of the 29-year-old striker.

The Baggies are also in danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season, and a player of Deeney’s quality and experience would certainly enhance their chances of staying in the Premier League for the 2018-19 campaign.
