Ray Parlour says the Tottenham Hotspur man is a “real gem”.

Ray Parlour has suggested on talkSPORT that he would prefer Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli in his side rather than Manchester United star Paul Pogba.

The 20-year-old midfielder is having another excellent season with Tottenham and impressed in Tuesday’s 0-0 Champions League draw at Bayer Leverkusen.

He emerged as one of the continent’s finest young players in a brilliant breakthrough season with Spurs last term and the England international looks to be getting better all the time.

He and Pogba operate in a similar role for their respective clubs following the Frenchman’s world-record £89 million move to the Red Devils in the summer.

But the 23-year-old is yet to hit the heights expected of him since his return to the Premier League, though it has only been a couple of months.

Nevertheless, the Arsenal legend claims “a lot of people” would rather have the Tottenham man in their side as opposed to the world-record holder.

“Dele Alli is superb. The debate was Alli or Pogba. A lot of people would go with Alli,” Parlour told Alan Brazil’s radio show on talkSPORT.

“He has a knack of getting into the right areas and scoring a goal. He is an all-round good footballer. Spurs have a real gem in their side. What a signing for £5m from MK Dons.”

Parlour is probably right at this moment in time, but in time Pogba is likely to prove a fine addition and one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
