England international striker Harry Kane has gone back to Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour praised England caretaker-manager Gareth Southgate on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, November 16, 2016) for releasing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
Southgate has released Kane from the England squad to take on Spain in a friendly international match on Tuesday evening.
The 23-year-old has only just returned from a seven-week injury layoff following an ankle problem.
Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes that Southgate made the right decision in letting Kane go back to Tottenham.
“Harry has been out quite a while, and he has come back and suddenly you know, if he is not right, then you don’t play him,” said Parlour on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, November 16, 2016).
“You don’t want to test him out a little bit more and then it goes even worse. So I think that was the right thing to do for Gareth.”
Kane is one of the best strikers in the Premier League and a key player for Tottenham.
The match against Spain is only a friendly, and it made sense for Southgate to allow the striker to return to Spurs.
Tottenham missed the 23-year-old during the time he was on the sidelines, and the North London outfit will welcome the early return of the striker from international duty.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are fifth in the Premier League table at the moment with 21 points from 11 matches, five points behind leaders Liverpool.
Spurs will return to action this coming Saturday when they take on West Ham United at White Hart Lane in the league.
