Ray Parlour has told talkSPORT that Mesut Ozil has already played his last game for Arsenal.

Things aren’t looking good for the former Germany international.

The 31-year-old playmaker hasn’t kicked a ball for Arsenal in any competitive competition since March, before last season was temporarily suspended.

Ozil didn’t have any role in the Gunners winning the FA Cup under Mikel Arteta last term and there’s been a further indication that he’s finished in North London.

Earlier this week it was announced that Arteta had left the former Real Madrid star out of his squad for the Europa League this season.

Parlour said on the Sports Breakfast show, broadcast 6am: “He won’t play another game. He [Arteta] has young players in there that he really wants to use ahead of Ozil, people like Willock and Nelson. Players like that. They’re going to get a chance. They’ve made a big decision. They still have to pay his wages, but he’s not going to be involved.”

Arteta said from day one that he wasn’t going to pick any Arsenal players based on reputation, that he was going by how they performed in training at London Colney.

And credit to the Spaniard, he has stuck to his word.

He said throughout the summer when football returned that Ozil had his fate in his own hands and it looks like he simply hasn’t risen to the challenge and Parlour is right, it’s growing increasingly difficult to ever see him playing for them again.
