The enigmatic German has played 71 minutes in the league for Arsenal this season.
Ray Parlour has told talkSPORT [07/10/2019] that he believes Mesut Ozil’s time at Arsenal has come to an end.
Gunners boss Unai Emery left him out of the squad completely in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth, having done the same in their Europa League victory last week.
Ozil, who is fit, has only managed 71 minutes of Premier League football at Arsenal this season.
The former Germany international has never been an ever-present figure under Emery after taking over from Arsene Wenger in North London in May of 2018 but, by the same token, he has never been this out of the picture.
Arsenal’s teenage stars Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have emerged as stars of the future in recent weeks, and club legend Parlour cannot see any room for the 30-year-old maestro any longer.
He told talkSPORT on Monday morning: “I have been really impressed by the youngsters coming through, from Arsenal’s point of view.
“Ozil’s not even in the squad now. I think that’s probably the end of his career at Arsenal.
“You have got youngsters that deserve an opportunity probably more than him at the moment. “[Bukayo] Saka has come in on the left-hand side, you have got [Gabriel] Martinelli, from Arsenal’s point of view going forward he’s been excellent.”
Parlour is right. Ozil, unfortunately, looks like his race is run as far as being a Gunner goes.
It’s a shame because in terms of natural talent, it’ll be some time before the Londoners have somebody like him again, but attitude and work ethic has long held him back in the Premier League and it looks like it’ll be the death of him at Arsenal.
